Study on emission reduction from the maritime transport sector

Our new study with Trinomics and Ricardo plc shows how maritimetransport can achieve emissionsreduction in line with the EU climatetargets and parisagreement!

Extending the EUETS and boosting the demand for sustainable, alternativefuels and low-carbon technologies are steps the European Commission is already taking!

But what is the right policy mix that can ensure action is cost-effective, enforceable and raises climate ambition all at once?

4 policy options and 3 geographical scopes (voyages undertaken by the ship) have been analysed and compared against a number of impacts, i.e. environmental (emissions, airpollution, energy use and biodiversity conservation); economic (SMEs, macroeconomy, public authorities); social (employment, distributional effects).
