Dr. Maria Kannavou has over seven years of experience as an energy analyst; her expertise includes energy system analysis and modelling, with a specialisation to power markets. Currently, she is coordinating the modelling activities of the energy system modelling team. Before that, she was leading the energy supply modelling team and was responsible for the improvement of existing power market models and the development of new ones. Over the years, she has participated in multiple studies in support of EU policy-making in the context of the transition towards a low-carbon energy system. Maria has also contributed to a series of projects, including resource adequacy studies for several power systems, capacity mechanisms studies and in-depth analysis of power market design and operation and exercises assessing the interlinkages of the energy-water-climate nexus. Maria holds a MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), focusing on modelling and analysis of flexibility in power systems with high penetration of renewables.
